The Coffee County UT Extension service has been in Manchester, Tennessee since 1911, three years before the United States Department of Agriculture became a partner with the state and county and authorized Extension Services nationwide.


On May 1, 1911 Katherine Vaughan became the first Extension Agent in Coffee County. J. H. Evans was appointed as the first agricultural agent on October 1, 1914. Geraldine Hallmark was selected as the first full time 4-H Home Economics agent on August 16, 1945 and James L. Taylor was appointed as the first full time 4-H Agricultural Agent on July 1, 1949.

The mission of the Coffee County Extension service is to aid "in the diffusion among the people useful and practical information on subjects related to agriculture, home economics and related areas and encouraging the application of the same."

The Coffee County Extension Service is part of the Cooperative Extension Service System operated through The University of Tennessee, U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Coffee County Governments cooperating together. The University of T Extension offers its programs to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability or veteran status and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
