> COFFEE COUNTY 4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Contact: Michelle Matthews or Bryan Barnes
4-H over the years has been very important in Coffee County. Our 4-H program utilizes project work to teach life skills. The project may be raising a dairy or beef calf or a garden, caring for a dog, planting trees, baking bread or any of 49 different subjects that fit an individual student`s situation and likes. 4-H is more than learning about agriculture and home economics. It is developing skills in leadership, management and communication. It is caring for others and caring for nature with a desire to make the world a better place to live. 4-H is open to all 4th-12th graders and is currently involved in 11 schools within Coffee County, Tullahoma and Manchester. There are about 100 clubs in the schools serving over 2,500 youth. In addition, there are four out-of-school community 4-H clubs and one Home Schoolers 4-H club in Coffee County. Special 4-H related programs are given to Junior High School and Senior High School classes on a special needs basis.

4-H and other youth development programs are a unique blend of government, private business and volunteers working together to broaden the horizons and life skills of Coffee County youth. In addition, the Coffee County 4-H program operates a Funnel Cake booth at the Coffee County Fair in conjunction with the Manchester Rotary Club as a needed fund raiser for 4-H projects and activities throughout the year.
